Drew did really well at open mic night in San Jose at the Improv. He was told by the other comics really good job!!! Esp for the first time. Most said their first time they got no laughs at all. It was very random but one of the comics ended up in our complex in San Leandro a few days ago. He is friends with someone who lives upstairs from us. He recognized Drew from the Improv and told him he did a really good job. It was a little intimidating because he was the only newbie that night. Everyone else had quite a bit of experience. In fact, several of them are going on a comedy tour together (they're from Southern Cal). One guy was promoting his CD. So it was not like what we think of as a typical open mic night where everybody stinks. So he got a little freaked out because most of the guys that went before him were really good. But he overcame the fear pretty quickly. Drew said a few days afterwards, I can't believe my first time was at the Improv! I said, "I know I was surprised you decided to do that." He went 3rd to last. The last guy was awful and a couple of other guys really bombed. Anyway, he was really funny and got a lot of laughs. His timing was good for the most part. He took pauses to make things funnier. The guy before him left the mic up high so he did a great thing where he just looked up at the mic and kind of stared. That got people laughing from the beginning. They liked when he asked "does the chair bother, you?" "Well, it bugs the crap out of me!" Anyway, he had a bunch of stuff that got laughs. Really everything at least got a chuckle, nothing just died. A couple of other guys had stuff that really killed and other stuff that bombed (in other words half the material worked and half didn't) but Drew was more consistent than that. So he's getting ready for next week. He will do all new material. Anyone who can make it out to see him please do! I unfortunately, have class :(

NICE!!! That's really exciting. And how awesome that he did so well on his first night with all those experienced performers. PLUS all new material next week? The man's talented. Congratulations!
