They removed Drew's aneurysm yesterday. The doctor actually called it a pseudo aneurysm since I guess there's different levels. A full blown aneurysm is usually after it's ruptured. They had a successful removal of it yesterday with just a puncture hole and a tube pushed down it to release the bloodflow, redirect it away from that walled up vessel where the pseudo aneurysm was. It had basically caused a pool of blood around the blood vessels. Fortunately, it hadn't hindered the bloodflow between the different vessels but it could have in the future. He hasn't had any problems w/bleeding or anything. He was asleep for the procedure and very groggy yesterday. They want to make sure he doesn't still bleed or have complications in the next few days so they are sending him home Monday without doing the skin/tissue flap surgery that he went in to UCSF for. Drew talked to the plastic surgeon today, a woman named Dr Ting, I think. Until today we had only talked to plastic interns (they're already surgeons just haven't completed their specialization in plastics, yet) She said vascular will reassess the pseudo aneurysm vessel in a week or so. She will set up the flap surgery to follow the vascular assessment. When he's sent home he'll have antibiotics (either the pick line IV or pills). Then they'll set up physical therapy for after that, too. We'll have to work out the home care visits with Aetna, too. They say he only has a few left. Maybe SSI can kick in after that, I don't know. We aren't sure if Dr Ting plans on him continuing the wound vacuum dressings on the 2nd wound or not. If not, that would mean much more frequent dressings, too. We'll find out before he leaves the hospital. Thank you for all the continued support and we'll let you know how everything goes.
