My friend Kemmeo (with the dreads playing w/the camera) had a little get together brunch at her apartment in Oakland today. A good time was had by all and it was something to take my mind off Drew's health.

Here is Drew's Mom's Account of what happened at the hospital today:

After one course of two antibiotics, the fever is gone and the white blood count ok. Today, we got a chance to talk to the attending physician and she said
the plastics consult found no infection in the bone and that the black is dead
tissue that gets removed by dressing changes. They are having the wound
care specialist and the nutritionist consult tomorrow. The Drs. think he has chronic anemia (not iron deficiency but some other type of anemia) from the infections or the original viral encephalitis in 1998. They are talking about some vitamin cocktails as a possibility. We have told the team we want a time line or an explanation of the obstacles to the flap before Andy leaves the hospital. That is the latest.

We are going again tomorrow. :) Mary

She sent this to his regular doctor, too. I want UCSF to also talk to Bill Bryson the wound nurse from San Ramon tomorrow since he treated the 2nd wound the most before Drew went to UCSF. I am not convinced this info the doctors gave today is all accurate since I have learned what the infection smells like and the dead tissue and fevers have always meant infection. It just may be that we caught it before it entered the bone! I'll be going to the hosp on my way to my night class tomorrow. Speaking of, I most finish the paper for it. Good night!
